The Takedown loves you guys so bad it hurts!!

I inadvertantly planted my maker hooks onto the largest sandworm on Arakis. (Dune analogy? Bad idea?) Who knew Bacon would bring out so many bloodthirsty wolves? My brain is still a little fried from the Bacon Takedown, which went exceedingly well this Sunday. Just as the crowds, 300 deep, were getting grumpy and restless, they all managed to eat 30 different bacon recipes and nobody threw a hissy and no fights broke out and no one died. Instead, we all threw down the greatest bacon party the world may ever know. YES!

So I’m a little late to this particular hate fest, but during an interview with the Post, the reporter allerted me to an article in Slate (I won’t even deign to link to it) that ponders whether bacon has “jumped the shark”!
The answer is no.
But what reporter in what soiled swivel chair in what airless 1000th-floor
office dreamed up this particular piece of hate speech? Hey, let’s destroy something beautiful and precious and wonderful like bacon! What a scoop! I can understand hating on skinny jeans and faux-hawks and sunglasses at night, but bacon? The fact that bacon is getting a little bit more love than usual in this day in age is a GOOD THING! Bacon is hip right now? I love 2009! I think we are finally witnessing the limits of media power, when they try and fail to knock bacon of its pedestal. Hating on bacon is kind of like telling a child there is no Santa Clause, when of course there is a Santa Clause.
Oh and here’ s a picture of me dressed up to look like said jolly old elf. I once worked in an office, and the higher ups made me be Santa Clause for their kids. I ho ho-ed and gave them each an Ipod (I know). Actually I got a bottle of Black Label for my troubles. So I really shouldn’t be that mad.

I want you guys to A: know I’m alive and scheming, waiting for March 29th.
B: I am way in love with a brand of brillo hot sauce from Philly: namely J.D. Paternoster’s Figgin Hot Dippin’ and Grillin’ Sauce. Truly a fiber blast from the very gates of hell. I met this dude when the Takedown came down to the Botanical Gardens annual Chile Fiesta! He was in the booth right next to ours. Anywho, I got a bottle of this figgy hot sauce and I just ran out, so I’m super bummed. I better see him, and all of you, at the next Chile Fiesta, because for one day, that is the center of the chile universe, and the Takedown is a part of it. Stay tuned…

It has come to pass. The Brooklyn Bacon Takedown is happening Sunday March 29 at 5PM. At Radegast Hall & Beer Garden in Williamsburg – 113 N 3rd St. off the Bedford Ave L Stop. It will be super amazing. We are looking for bacon-based recipes. Yes, BACON RECIPES. COMPETING HEAD-TO-HEAD. Bacon could be the main ingredient. Or there could be a hint of bacon. The main thing is, it must be totally delicious. A bacon chili. A bacon pasta. A bacon cobbler, perhaps. Or something none of us could ever have anticipated. Just make sure you make enough for the deluge of fans who will undoubtedly arrive to judge you.
Your recipes will compete, head to head. The throngs will come on down, and taste your creations, and vote on the winner. Like Patton or Henry V before the battle- I tremble, thinking of the carnage to be. YOU MUST EMAIL ME TO ENTER!
