TICKETS AVAILABLE AT THE DOOR!!!
July 15, 2012 2PM at Public Works in the Mission!
Pop quiz, hot shot: What’s faster than a cherry red Lambourghini Countache Quartravore (this is not a trace I drew that, don’t doubt me ever)? The answer is that there is nothing. Except maybe the SAN FRANCISCO BACON TAKEDOWN, THAT IS!
Just like last year, and the year before that, I’m bringing the Takedown back to SF. Each team of local home cooks gets a whopping 15lbs of Hormel Black Label Bacon (sponsoring!) to blow our collective consciousness. We’re all doofuses for bacon, but I’m looking for you to make something truly spectacular… So bring your finest bacon recipe on over, and let’s all judge this year’s Takedown “CHAMPIGNON”!!! (that is a actual french word.)
The prizes are kind of totally worth it: Analon, Le Creuset, Wusthof, Microplane- and even a YEAR’S SUPPLY of Hormel Black Label Bacon!!!
i used photoshop to create a look like there is an angry rumbling cloud of bacon that is actually rolling in to smother SF. I'm actually quite proud of how this looks. cool, right!!??

The blood of Sparta flows through the godly bodies of my Takedownerz. I know this because I was there. I saw my small squad of 20 cooks look out upon the field, and coolly survey the tens of thousands of googamoogers. A hawk circled over the field, screaming like this: KAWWW! KAWWW!!! That’s when they knew. This place would burn.
The Takedownerz did what they had to do, and set grimly to their cauldrons of hot sauce that would could kneel a colossus. And that weekend, they did make the attendees of Googamooga kneel to their will… and exploded their hearts!!
AFTER THE JUMP here’s a list of Saturday and Sundays competitors, their hot sauces- as well as the winner champs who won… Continue reading →

ALL SPOTS FILLED! (but EMAIL ME to get on my mailing list, for other equally amazing takedowns!!)
Can you even believe it!!!??? The biggest food event all year (May 19+20) has decided, in their utmost smartness, to make a Hot Sauce Takedown to happen!!!
5:15PM-6:45PM May 19 + 20 in the Restaurant 101 Area at Googamooga in Prospect Park!
As the benevolent ruler of the Takedown, I said sigh, okay I guess I will have to unleash 20 googleplex tonz of lovingly-locally-made hot sauces upon this land. Let’s make it happen…!!!!! Over the 2 days, there will be 20 Brooklyn local hot sauce sizzlers in attendance, and YOU will judge the hellishness of all of them!!!! VOTE to determine the coolest of the hotttt. The endorphins floating around Googamooga would blow any roof off, so thank God and Hall and Oates that this is an outdoor takedown…!!!!

No Denver, it is NOT okay to bodyslam a person with 300lbs of bacon. You would have to be INSANE to think that is a normal thing. But I guess your average Denverite doesn’t care about what’s done on the outside. When you get in the Octagon, you lose a part of yourself, and all that is left is a raw animal urge… to party super hard. Continue reading →

Lauren and Missy better sleep one eye up in Austin- they made a lot of enemies on Sunday, what with winning both Judges AND People’s Choice at the 3rd Annual Austin Bacon Takedown! I wouldn’t want to be in their shoes, rolling around town with a billion cookware prizes, and a year’s supply of Hormel Black Label Bacon. Some girls was just born unlucky, I guess.
And once again, Austin proves you don’t need SXSW to have a good time. You only need a pickup truck filled with bacon, and a few good people. Thanks to all the cooks for once again rolling up there sleeves… they grabbed Austin by the throat and squeezed, until Austin’s head actually popped off and showered us all in blood and laughter!
Thanks also to the new home of the ABTD, Shangri La! What a cool space, great staff and stern drinks! We partied so hard! Hormel Black Label Bacon was the cooles sponsor of forever, and proved it by showing up with a PHOTO BOOTH, SICK T-SHIRTZ and BACON GIVEAWAYS! Also, I did what I said I would do- I learned to knit, just so I could give each and every bacon cook a hand-knitted piece of actual bacon!!!!
Check out PICS (by ace photog Pete Van Kleve) on the TAKEDOWN FACEBOOK PAGE! ADD YOURSELF!
